The artwork for Jimmy was made using a variety of techniques, including monoprinting, water colour and pencil. I painted hundreds of parrots in search of what Jimmy would look like. See some of them here!
While developing the story I make many dummy books to see how it’s working. See a sample of here!
‘Hello Jimmy!’ received a starred review in Publishers Weekly. I was touched by the thoughtful words written about the story:
“... the incident proves to be the moment of truth that both son and father need, movingly and quietly reaffirming their connection. Walker (Lottie & Walter) crafts an extraordinarily imagined book, profound in its understanding of the heart, and featuring a feathered Moby-Dick at its center—a figure capable of embodying and reflecting layers of emotional significance and meaning. Ages 4–7. Agent: Stephen Barr, Writers House. (Feb.)” @publisherswkly
